The combustion of fossil fuels has significantly contributed to environmental pollution and a substantial increase in atmospheric CO2 and other greenhouse gases. This phenomenon has played a major role on escalating global warming and climate change, adversely impacting on ecosystems worldwide. In this sense, one of the primary objectives of the European Union is to convert solar energy into added-value chemicals and fuels, aiming at reducing imported fossil fuels and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. Artificial photosynthesis by photoelectrochemical water splitting stands out as one of the most promising approaches. Oxygen evolution takes place at the anode, to provide the protons and electrons for the complementary cathodic reaction (e.g.: hydrogen evolution, CO2 reduction, or nitrogen reduction). However, there are several issues, related to conversion efficiency, stability and scalability, which limit large-scale technological deployment of this technology. Efforts to overcome such limitations include the design of novel materials and devices, as well as understanding carrier dynamics in the system. In this webinar, we will discuss the recent advances on photoelectrochemical water splitting from these three different perspectives: novel materials, mechanistic analysis and device design and scalability. This will include invited speakers from different European projects (OHPERA, SUN2CHEM, SUNGATE, SOLAR2CHEM, FLOWPHOTOCHEM and A-LEAF). The speakers will have 20 min presentation, followed by 5 min of questions. The webinar will culminate with the forum “Perspectives on photoelectrochemical production of solar fuels” moderated by Prof. Sixto Gimenez, dedicated to exploring the most promising strategies and future outlook in this field. Invited speakers and schedule of the webinar:

We are deligthed to invite you to Castellón for the 8th ISGS Workshop. In this edition, SUSGEM 2023 is focused on sustainable sol-gel energy materials, which are at the core of many impact technologies in our society. The International Sol-Gel Society (ISGS) Workshops are biannual activities organized by members of the ISGS community. These meetings aim at gathering together young students, early career researchers and well-recognized world-leading scientists in a relaxed atmosphere to facilitate and generate exchange of scientific information and knowledge. SUSGEM 2023 will be held from October 1st to 4th 2023 in Castelló de la Plana, a Mediterranean-style city in the east of Spain, with wide-ranging cultural and gastronomic activities, and beautiful sand-covered beaches. The meeting will include lectures from plenary and invited speakers, as well as oral and flash presentations by junior and senior researchers. We look forward to meeting you during 2023 in Spain. Let’s connect!

This seminar is a multidisciplinary meeting that brings together scientists from almost all the groups at the Institute of Advanced Materials (INAM), allowing to expand the knowledge about the different lines of research and giving rise to possible collaborations. The protagonists on this day will be the most senior PhD students of each group, who are participating by giving a talk in 15 + 5 format where they will show their results and explain from a general point of view the science on which their research is based. All members of the institute are invited to participate. You will find attached a tentative seminar programme and for any questions do not hesitate to write to Camilo Mesa (cmesa@uji.es) or Ana Gutiérrez (angutier@uji.es).

The VI GEQB will bring together world-renowned scientists to share their recent research and vision for the future, to discuss the latest advances in the understanding of bio-mechanisms/structure-activity relationships, new products, and advances in our understanding of the factors that promote translation from basic science to clinic use. The biennial meetings of the RSEQ Chemical Biology Group started in 2012 in Santiago de Compostela and have successfully continued in Bilbao, 2014 (jointly with the 14th Iberian Peptide Meeting), Madrid, 2016 (this time jointly with the RSEQ specialized group on carbohydrates), Barcelona, 2018 (jointly with the 16th Iberian Peptide Meeting) and Granada 2020.
