The INAM researchers Juan Bisquert and Sixto Gimenez participate in the A-LEAF project, one of the largest research projects in artificial photosynthesis, funded by the European Commission, with about 8 million euros.

European Commission, with about 8 million euros. A-LEAF consortium at the Kick.off meeting

The A-LEAF project aims to design, build and validate a photoelectrochemical device capable of transforming CO2 into added value products in a sustainable and cost-effective way to be transferred to the European industry. The basic idea is to reproduce the process of plant photosynthesis to obtain clean fuels using as raw materials sunlight, water and CO2. In this way, the research will contribute to the transition from the current energy model, based on fossil fuels, to a sustainable and environmentally friendly model based on solar energy.
A-LEAF project involves a strongly multidisciplinary approach covering material science, computational physical-chemistry, surface physics, device engineering and advanced characterization techniques. The project is coordinated by Prof. José Ramón Galán-Mascarós from the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research (ICIQ) and involves 13 partner institutions from eight european countries: ETH Zurich, Leiden University, IMDEA Nanoscience, EPFL, Technische Universität Wien, Universitat Jaume I of Castelló, Imperial College, Technical University of Darmstadt and Forschungszentrum Jülich, Université de Montpellier, INSTM and COVESTRO
