Abstract:
Climate change requires sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels, making biomass a key resource for producing value-added products. Electrocatalysis offers an energy-efficient method for biomass conversion, operating under mild conditions with abundant materials. Key reactions like hydrogenation and oxidation benefit from electrochemical control, improving selectivity and efficiency. In this thesis studies on hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), a biomass derivative, and nitrobenzene demonstrate high conversion rates using modified electrodes and impedance spectroscopy. These findings highlight electrochemistry's potential for scalable, sustainable chemical production.
