MISSION AND VISION OF INAM

The Institute of Advanced Materials at the University Jaume I (INAM), established by the Generalitat Valenciana in 2015, is a University Research Center devoted to interdisciplinary research in physics, chemistry, engineering, and related fields.

Vision

Our vision is to be a leading international research center on advanced materials and their application for a sustainable future.

Mission

Our mission is

  1. to push the boundaries of material science and innovation through cutting-edge scientific research, leading to the development of advanced applications to address global challenges,
  2. to promote the transfer of technology to the society,
  3. to train the new generations of young researchers and highly qualified professionals.

Main strategic values

  • Excellence. We pursue quality and excellence in all our activities, promoting continuous improvement in our processes and outcomes.
Collaboration. We foster interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation with other institutions, companies, and public organizations to maximize the impact of our research and knowledge transfer.
  • Ethics. We act with integrity, transparency, and responsibility in all our actions, respecting ethical principles and promoting ethical behavior in our community, ensuring gender balance, inclusiveness, and equality.
  • Innovation. We drive creativity and innovation in our research, training, and technology transfer activities, seeking original and sustainable solutions to current and future challenges.
  • Social and Environmental Commitment. We are committed to contributing to sustainable development and societal well-being, promoting responsible and environmentally friendly practices in all our activities.

Our ongoing institutional strategy is cantered on attaining objectives based on four guiding principles:

  • Foster Excellence: producing impactful scientific results as well as promoting entrepreneurship, assisted by efficient management and governance. This involves strategic resource allocation, transparent decision-making, uphold ethical standards to keep our reputation and integrity, pursue excellent training and career development practices and foster a collaborative and inclusive environment following best practises in recruitment to attract top-tier researchers to drive innovation.
  • Prioritize Impact: emphasize basic and application research with significant societal, economic, and environmental benefits, ensuring that outcomes contribute to the progress of knowledge in Advanced Materials and Devices for a Sustainable Future.
  • Pursue Innovation: foster a culture that encourages groundbreaking ideas, unconventional thinking, and innovative approaches to research problems.
  • Promote Collaboration: facilitate interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration, to leverage diverse expertise and perspectives in tackling complex scientific challenges.

STRATEGIC RESEARCH PROGRAMME 2024-2027

Itis well established that the effects of climatic change will transform the conditions in our country and have a great impact on the life conditions in the coming decades. The scientific, technical and social research must define objectives based in the scientific information and in the forecast of the transformations, to establish the necessary adaptations. The field of advanced materials can have a profound impact in the way in which we produce and use the energy, and in the conditions of living. One important approach is to use chemical approaches for the production and storage of energy, combined with the light-matter interaction involved in solar energy conversion, with also efficient and cheap light production. Combining biological matter with organic and inorganic materials can provide a range of fundamental knowledge and significant applications that cannot be achieved otherwise.

The plan for the institute combines three major lines divided in several specific lines:

1.Chemistry to transform society (new chemical routes)

  • Fundamental reactions and catalysis
  • Decontamination
  • Added value products

2.Energy Conversion and Management (chemistry of materials and physical processes)

  • Energy production and conversion
  • Energy Management and Utilization

3.Adapting biological materials for functional applications

  • Modifying and applying biological matter for sustainability, health and energy
  • Combining biological materials with organic and inorganic matter for functional applications
