Summary/Abstract:
ECOCAT represents a multiscale research approach, based on the transfer of the fundamental knowledge needed to synthesize novel (photo)electrocatalysts and to obtain a scalable fabrication of working devices for energy conversion applications. Additionally, the proposed project requires a multidisciplinary expertise, combining aspects of i) synthesis of novel catalytic materials (electrocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic), ii) surface physics/chemistry (including structural, compositional, optical, and (photo)electrochemical characterization), and iii) design and optimization of energy conversion devices, towards the achievement of the main goal: the development of materials and components to implement an electrocatalytic device to facilitate the activation of redox reactions with an enhanced energy balance for the generation of H-H, C-C and N-Hx bonds at the electrodes. Therefore, ECOCAT requires the synergy between groups with experience in this broad variety of complementary fields and prone to exchange knowledge and personnel.
