A group of INAM researchers attends this week the nanoGe September Meeting in Barcelona. This is a multisymposium international on INAM research topics as photovoltaics, perovskites, solar fuel converters, quantum dotas, catalysis and 2D materials. Several senior researchers presented oral talks. Ivan Mora-Sero, Sixto Gimenez, Antonio Guerrero and Juan Bisquert.

Dos científics de l’INAM han participat en un important avanç pel que fa al funcionament i eficiència dels materials híbrids de perovskita, utilitzats en panells solars d’última generació. Les perovskites híbrides són una família de materials que alberga un gran potencial per a les tecnologies fotovoltaiques, ja que el seu cost és reduït i la seua eficiència a l’hora de generar energia elèctrica no té precedents: en només cinc anys, el seu rendiment ha superat els rècords marcats per tecnologies consolidades com són les basades en silici monocristal·lí, policristal·lí i amorf.

Physics research groups at the institute of Avdanced Materials are well known at the international level by the application of Impedance Spectroscopy method to solar cells over the last 15 years. Impedance Spectroscopy (IS) is based on a time-modulated measurement of electrical current vs. electrical voltage. Now a new idea has emerged, in the framework of long-standing cooperation between Iranian theorist Mehdi Ansari-Rad and INAM director, Juan Bisquert.

INAM participates in the European Project A-LEAF, granted with 8 million Euros

The A-LEAF project aims to design, build and validate a photoelectrochemical device capable of transforming CO2 into added value products in a sustainable and cost-effective way to be transferred to the European industry. The basic idea is to reproduce the process of plant photosynthesis to obtain clean fuels using as raw materials sunlight, water and CO2. In this way, the research will contribute to the transition from the current energy model, based on fossil fuels, to a sustainable and environmentally friendly model based on solar energy.

Dr Beatriz Julián participated in the 3rd International Conference NANOAPP 2017 organized in Hotel Golf, Bled, Slovenia from 14th to 18th June.
NANOAPP 2017 gathered world-renowned scientists in Nanomaterials and was focused on the synthesis and applications of novel nanomaterials for energy, environment, medicine, biotechnology, sensors and textiles. Great emphasis was placed on hybrid materials, which have already demonstrated good promise in addressing and offering solutions in each of these priority areas.

La revista TALENTO, editada por el ayuntamiento de Castellón, ha seleccionado una lista de nombres de castellonenses que 'triunfan aquí, y más allá de nuestras fronteras.' En el ámbito de las ciencias, destaca Macarena Poyatos, investigadora química del INAM.
'Durante años hemos centrado nuestro interés en la preparación de catalizadores homogéneos. Un catalizador homogéneo es un compuesto metálico que es capaz de aumentar la velocidad de una reacción química.

The deprotonation of a corannulene-based bisazolium salt allowed the preparation of a corannulene-based NHC di-AuI complex. The prepared di-AuI-complex was tested in the recognition of fullerene-C60, demonstrating good binding affinity in toluene solution, and producing a host–guest complex with 3:1 stoichiometry, as evidenced by a combination of NMR spectroscopy and ITC titrations. The experimental results are fully supported by DFT calculations. The binding of C60 with the di-AuI complex in toluene solution is enthalpically and entropically favoured.

A combination of self-complementary π–π-stacking interactions and metallophilic interactions triggered the self-assembly of a new digold(I) metallo-tweezer in the presence of several types of M+ ions. Titrations by fluorescence spectroscopy enabled the determination of the association constants of the resulting inclusion duplex complexes.

On June 16th, Carmen Mejuto defended her Doctoral Thesis entitled Poly-N-Heterocyclic Carbene Ligands with Rigid polyaromatic linkers. Self-Assembly and Host-Guest Chemistry. Carmen Mejuto obained the maximum qualification 'Sobresaliente Cum Laude'. The Thesis was defended under the basis of the international doctorade program, and was supervised by Prof. Eduardo Peris and Dr. Gregorio Guisado.
